Environmental management, rehabilitation and reducing water consumption.

Environmental policy

Energy Resources prioritizes the responsible use and rehabilitation of natural resources. In full compliance with all applicable laws and environmental standards, the company systematically implements measures to mitigate potential impacts and prevent environmental harm across its operations.

Environmental projects

Energy Resources LLC pioneered the implementation of integrated international management standards in the Mongolian mining sector in 2018. The company operates in full compliance with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System, and ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System standards. Within the framework of these systems, the company undergoes annual third-party audits to continuously improve operational performance, quality control, environmental protection, and workplace safety. In 2025, Energy Resources LLC expanded its commitments by implementing the ISO 46001:2019 Water Efficiency Management System standard to promote responsible water usage and conservation across its operations. The company annually formulates an Environmental Management Plan, which is reviewed and approved by relevant government authorities. In 2025, implementation of the Environmental Management Plan reached 95.75 percent completion.

Tree nursery field and forest belt

To support future biological rehabilitation, Energy Resources LLC established a specialized tree nursery field at Ukhaa khudag. The nursery field cultivates the most suitable perennial plants of the Gobi in its natural habitat. Currently, 22 species of trees, shrubs, and woody plants belonging to 17 genera are being cultivated at the site, including Ulmus pumila, Elaeagnus moorcroftii, Tamarix ramosissima, Haloxylon ammodendron, Populus diversifolia, Amygdalus mongolica, Populus laurifolia, Hippophae rhamnoides, and Salix ledebouriana. Notably, these include rare and threatened woody plant species of Mongolia, such as Populus diversifolia, Elaeagnus moorcroftii, and Amygdalus mongolica. Furthermore, to combat desertification and soil degradation in the Gobi region, we established a forest belt in Tsogttsetsii soum in 2011, 7 km from Tsogttsetsii soum. Today the forest belt has expanded to cover 63 hectares, with over 94,000 trees and shrubs successfully established over the past decade.

Mongolia’s One Billion Trees campaign

In alignment with its corporate social responsibility commitments, Energy Resources LLC joined the "One Billion Trees" national movement initiated by the President of Mongolia, pledging to plant and grow 40 million trees by 2030. Under this framework, the company collaborated with the National Association of Mongolian Forest Professionals NGO to develop a preliminary feasibility study and initiate project execution. To date, Energy Resources LLC has successfully planted approximately 400,000 trees across the Central, Khangai, and Gobi regions.

Water stewardship

At Energy Resources, responsible mining and water stewardship are central to our operational strategy. Operating in the water-scarce Gobi region, we strictly account for local environmental characteristics by integrating water recycling and conservation technologies across all infrastructure facilities. Our site-wide telemetry-monitored water supply network meets the operational demands of the mining complex while providing the neighboring Tsogttsetsii soum with drinking water purified up to 99%. Adjacent to the Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP), our Tailings dewatering plant extracts and recycles process water from slurry waste. Furthermore, the Ukhaa khudag power plant uses dry cooling technology with zero water consumption and, compared with other power plants, uses four to five times less water.
