Company milestones
Company foundation
The company was founded through a joint investment from reputable national holding companies of Mongolia such as MCS Group, Petrovis Group and Shunkhlai Group.
The Ukhaa khudag township established
The Ukhaa khudag township was established, laying the foundations of the mining complex.
The first Open consultation in the mining sector of Mongolia
Demonstrating industry leadership, the company organized Mongolia’s first-ever open-day community consultation for a mining project, engaging community members across Tsogttsetsii, Bayan-Ovoo, and Khanbogd soums of Umnugobi aimag.
Heritage & archaeological protection survey
Even before the start of its mining operations, archaeological surveys and research were conducted around Ukhaa khudag, demonstrating a responsible approach to preserving natural and cultural heritage.
Ukhaa khudag mine commissioning
The Ukhaa khudag mine has officially begun full-scale operations following final approval from the State Commission.
Tavantolgoi airport commissioning
Energy Resources built and commissioned the Tavantolgoi Airport.
“Gallery” camp commissioning
“Gallery” – The first of its kind camp facility in Mongolia featuring unique architectural design alongside the mine maintenance workshop.
HKEX IPO
After only one year of fast-paced operations, the Company was successfully listed on the main board of Hong Kong Stock Exchange, making it the first Mongolian company to offer its shares internationally.
CHPP Module I commissioning
Energy Resources LLC commissioned Module I of Mongolia’s first Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP), supported by an advanced water supply infrastructure.
18 MW power plant commissioned
The commissioning of the 18 MW power plant, built entirely by Mongolian engineers, provided a reliable electricity supply to the Ukhaa khudag mine and Tsogttsetsii soum, which had lacked permanent power for decades.
245 km industrial road completed
The 245 km heavy-duty paved road connecting Ukhaa khudag and Gashuunsukhait was constructed and brought into operation entirely by an all-Mongolian team of engineers and technical specialists.
Gashuunsukhait port expansion
In partnership with state-owned Erdenes MGL LLC, Energy Resources LLC completed a major expansion of the Gashuunsukhait border port, boosting its throughput capacity by 2-3 times.
Ukhaa khudag complex honored with the "State Gerege" award
In recognition of its significant contribution to Mongolia’s industrial and processing sectors, the Ukhaa khudag complex was awarded the “State Gerege”—the highest national development award presented by Presidential Decree.
“Dream” educational complex commissioning
In partnership with Umnugobi aimag, Energy Resources LLC built and commissioned the “Dream” educational complex (school for 700 pupils, a kindergarten for 144 children and dormitory for 100 children).
Full-scale operations begin at the CHPP
With all three modules of Mongolia’s first Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) fully completed and commissioned, coal processing and export capabilities expanded, significantly boosting international market competitiveness.
“Tsetsii” residential complex completed
The three-phase construction and commissioning of the "Tsetsii" residential complex was successfully completed, providing fully furnished, modern housing for 650 families.
Tailings dewatering plant commissioning
By constructing a Tailings dewatering plant adjacent to the Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP), we increased process water recycling rates to 60-70%, introducing advanced, environmentally friendly technology to Mongolia.
Global CSR awards finalist
The company achieved top recognition at the Global CSR Awards, ranking among the Top 3 participants for its outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and sustainable development projects.
Ranked top 5 national taxpayer
Energy Resources LLC was ranked 4th among Mongolia’s Top 100 corporate taxpayers for 2010–2014, as recognized by the Mongolian Tax Administration.
Strategic MoU with Sumitomo Corporation
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to collaborate on supplying coal to seaborne third markets, including Japan and South Korea.
40 million tonnes processed milestone
The Ukhaa khudag Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) reached a major milestone in Mongolia's mining and processing history by processing its 40 millionth metric ton of coal.
Debt restructuring & financial resilience
The company successfully navigated the prolonged mining sector downturn that began in 2012, completing a swift and successful restructuring of its debt profile.
Mongolia’s first integrated ISO certification
Became the first organization in Mongolia to implement ISO standards as an Integrated Management System (IMS) across operations, receiving official certification from France-based AFNOR Group.
Global CSR Gold award winner
The company became the first Mongolian organization to win the Gold Award at the 11th Global CSR Summit & Awards, competing among more than 200 leading companies across the Asia-Pacific region.
$440 million bond named the best deal in Asia
The company’s USD 440 million international bond issuance was named "Mongolia Deal of the Year 2019" by FinanceAsia, while also receiving regional recognition from IFR Global and IFR Asia as the Asian Deal of the Year.
Gashuunsukhait container terminal completed
To accelerate coal exports, an additional 30-hectare container transport terminal was constructed at the Gashuunsukhait border port within just two months and successfully handed over to the State Commission.

Energy Resources LLC initiated coal trading via the Mongolian Stock Exchange open online auctions for export coal.
